What to expect?
You might be wondering about the counselling process and what to expect from it. Read on to find out more.
Professional Counselling in Pretoria and Online
At Geheel Counselling – Berading, you will find professional, compassionate, and confidential counselling in a calm and non-judgmental space. Starting counselling can feel intimidating, but many clients soon experience the counselling space as safe, supportive, and grounding.
Counselling is a collaborative process focused on your wellbeing, emotional health, and personal growth. Support is tailored to your needs, whether you are seeking help for burnout, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, or personal development.
What to Expect Before Your First Counselling Session
After booking a session, you will receive an intake and informed consent form. These outline your rights as a client, confidentiality, and what to expect from the counselling process. This helps you feel informed, prepared, and at ease before we begin.
Your First Counselling Session
The first session is exploratory. We talk about what brings you to counselling, your current challenges, and what you would like to work on. Together, we begin to clarify your goals and shape a counselling plan that feels supportive and manageable.
There is no pressure to share everything at once. You are welcome to move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
Ongoing Individual and Couples Counselling
From the second session onward, we work more deeply with the themes and concerns that arise. Counselling is client-centred and collaborative, focusing on insight, emotional regulation, and practical strategies to support meaningful change.
Your feedback is always welcome, and the counselling process can be adjusted to better meet your needs.
Counselling Approach and Style
My approach to counselling is eclectic and integrative, drawing on evidence-based practices while remaining flexible to your individual needs. Sessions focus on understanding emotional patterns, developing coping skills, and supporting long-term wellbeing.
Faith-Sensitive Counselling
While I provided non-faith based counselling, I work from a Christian worldview, which informs my understanding of meaning, values, and wellbeing. Faith or belief systems may be explored in counselling only if this is relevant and comfortable for you.
Faith is never imposed, and counselling is not used to persuade or convert. Clients of all backgrounds and belief systems are welcome, and the process is guided by your values, preferences, and goals.
Counselling Session Length and Frequency
Sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are usually held once a week. Frequency can be adjusted depending on your needs and circumstances.
In-Person and Online Counselling Options
Counselling is available in person in Murrayfield, Pretoria, or online, depending on your preference.
While couples counselling can be offered online, in-person couples counselling is generally recommended for deeper connection and communication work.
How Long Does Counselling Last?
Most counselling processes last between 6 and 12 sessions, although this varies depending on your goals and situation. Counselling is not about dependency. The aim is to help you feel empowered and equipped to manage both current and future challenges. It's important to remember, you may end counselling at any time.
Confidential and Ethical Counselling
Counselling is a confidential and ethical process. Your privacy is respected at all times. Confidentiality is only legally broken in serious situations such as risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse. Full details are provided in the informed consent form.
Returning to Counselling in the Future
When you reach your counselling goals, we will reflect on your progress and the skills you have gained. There is no limit to how often you can return to counselling. Whether weeks, months, or years later, you are always welcome back.
